The rise of medspa: what beauty operators should know
Injectables and light-based treatments are the fastest-growing category in the UK. Here's what changes when you add them.
Dr. Elena Voss · Aesthetics consultant · 18 March 2026

UK medspa searches grew 340% between 2020 and 2025. For an operator with existing space, the appeal is obvious: higher ticket, higher margin, longer intervals between visits. But four things change the moment you offer a regulated treatment.
Regulation is arriving
The Health and Care Act 2022 licensing scheme for non-surgical cosmetic procedures is being phased in through 2026. If you offer botulinum toxin, dermal fillers, or thread lifts, you will need premises licensing, practitioner licensing, and record-keeping that resembles a small clinic more than a salon.
Insurance is a different animal
Beauty insurance ~£300/yr. Medspa insurance ~£1,800/yr and requires named practitioners, treatment logs, and consent-form retention for 7 years.
The customer journey is longer
A haircut is a same-day booking. A first filler appointment is: consultation → cooling-off period → treatment → 2-week review. Your booking flow needs to support multi-step journeys, and your marketing needs to fund a longer sales cycle.
